- Login to Canvas
- Click on the course in Canvas that you want to complete your assessment for through AEFIS.
- On the Canvas Menu, look for the menu “AEFIS” or “AEFIS Tools.” AEFIS will open automatically and present you with the course syllabus.
- a.) If you receive a message that says “A matching AEFIS course could not be found”, please speak with your AEFIS Administrator. Courses in Canvas will only open AEFIS if there is matching course in AEFIS.

- At the top left on the blue header, open the AEFIS menu (three horizontal white lines)
- Click on “Assignments” - this will populate all of your existing Canvas created assignments or give you the ability to create an AEFIS assignment. (Please go to “How to create Assignments in AEFIS” for this instruction guide)
- Click the AEFIS Menu again, and choose “Assignment Linking.”
- a.) The outcomes (competencies) that have been mapped to your specific course through the curriculum map will appear on the page. If no outcomes (competencies) are shown that means a curriculum map has not been created for your course.
- b.) Click the “blue pencil” icon to begin linking your Canvas Assignments to the outcomes (competencies)
- c.) The pop-up will display all of your Canvas Assignments. Choose one or more assignment to link to an outcome (competencies) and update the weighting if you choose more than one.
- d.) For assignments with rubrics created in Canvas, click on the blue “link rubrics” to the right of the assignment name and select the one or more criteria that link to the outcome (competency).
- e.) Rubric Settings - All curriculum maps created in AEFIS require the creation of a program rubric that is used to assess each student on the same scale across the program.
- i.) Using the sliders designate the thresholds for each of the rubrics. When AEFIS imports the scores from Canvas for each assignment those scores will be converted to a 100% scale and aligned with the correct rubric.

- Repeat step #6 for each outcome (competency) mapped to your course.
- Last, open the AEFIS Menu and click on “Assessment Form”
- a.) Each time that you click on “Assessment Form” AEFIS in real-time pulls the scores for each assignment that was linked and display the rubric level for each student.
- b.) If the rubric displayed for the student is faded that will mean that not all the assignments for the student have been graded.
- c.) If the rubric displayed is brightly colored all the scores for that students have been pulled to AEFIS.
- d.) For each student you can click on the rubric to view the data being pulled from Canvas. You will be presented with the following information:
- i.) Assignments Scores (based on the weighting)
- ii.) Projected Performance (if not all assignments have been scored)
- iii.) Performance (if all assignments have been scored)
- iv.) Notes and/or Attachments
- These are automatically pulled from the assignment for evidence of student work.

- e.) All assignment data linked to an outcome (competency) is saved in the AEFIS database on the assessment end date (this is typically after the semester ends and is a date set up in AEFIS by the program coordinator)
